Eating Gluten-Free at Cheeburger Cheeburger

Diners and Burgers

How many diners have you been to? No, not dinners.

Diners, people, diners.

Okay, now how many diners have you been while you have been eating gluten-free?

Ha! I'm quite confident those two numbers are quite different.

Now for the kicker:

How many diners have you been to that have gluten-free burgers with gluten-free buns?

Ha! Gotcha now!

I'm not talking about ordering a bunless burger. No. Wrong. Try again. I'm talking about a bunful burger, completely gluten-free.

I have now been to one such diner! Actually, I've been to this diner quite a few times before this. But this time was different.

This was my first! My very first diner experience with a gluten-free burger with a gluten-free bun.

See... there really is a first time for everything!

This was a small, celebratory dinner for our son.  He chose one of our favorite diner-remakes.  There's nothing old about this place, except the styling. Fifties, chrome, and fushia. Everywhere.

But they also have the biggest, most varied menu on the planet, with the most choices.

Choices for burgers. Choice for burger meat. Choices for burger buns. Choices for burger toppings. Choices for salads. Choices for salad toppings. Choices for shake-a-sodas. Choices for shakes. Choices for shake combinations.

If you want choices, this is your place!

I used to always just get salads here. I can select which kind of lettuce I want and each and every topping is my choice. And they have so many choices!

This time I ordered just a side salad. Not a full size, large salad this time. I had other plans for my main course.

Even when ordering a side salad where you pick each topping, always be sure to specify no croutons or bread of any kind. I usually start by telling my server that my entire meal needs to be completely gluten-free. This usually garners the appropriate level of special attention the situation requires.

A baby greens side salad with blue cheese dressing was the right choice this night.

Never mind that the cucumbers were not ordered by me. Apparently, they are standard fare on a side salad. I don't much like cucumbers. I readily give them away. And away they went!

Next up, my main course.

Burger. But not just any burger. Not just any bunless burger. Not just any lettuce-wrapped burger. This was a full on, bunful burger.

How is that possible, you ask?

It's not rocket science, I can tell you that.

Cheeburger Cheeburger now serves, upon request, Udi's gluten-free buns!

Outstanding! I have been waiting for this day! The day when a regular ol' diner offers gluten-free buns! This day has arrived!

I had to have a fully appointed burger. There was no question about it.

Well, actually, there were plenty of questions. But the questions came about in the form of toppings. Which to choose??? Which would be perfect together with my gluten-free bun? There were so many options! So many choices!

I finally settled on a turkey burger with bacon, blue cheese and sautéed mushrooms on an Udi's gluten free bun.

Here it is before I remembered to add tomato and lettuce!

This was outstanding! A real diner burger exactly to my specifications! It was so good to have a burger not slide around inside a wrapping of iceberg lettuce. A lettuce wrap is good enough when you have no other option, but not here. Here, now, you have gluten free buns!

If you haven't had Udi's breads, buns, and bagels, go get yourself out and find some! These are the best gluten-free bread products available. Best tasting. Best softness. Best availability. You want to get some Udi's!

Welcome back to real, full on, diner burgers, completely gluten-free, with buns!

Oh, and if you really want that lettuce wrap, you can still have that. They'll do that for you.

Thanks Udi's and Cheeburger Cheeburger!
