Rice "Tortilla" Chips?
Tortilla chips.
That's what I thought of when I saw these crispy triangles.
No, I've never heard of anyone outright ordering rice tortillas. But they are available, gluten-free, in many health food stores.
But rice tortilla chips?
Really?
Aren't tortilla chips made of corn?
Well, they are and they aren't.
Utz Rice Crisps - Salsa Fresca
I liked these chips from the beginning. The first one I pulled out of the bag was covered with seasonings. There's nothing better than a chip covered in seasonings!
The seasonings were good. Not fluorescent orange. Not tinged with preservatives. Good, tangy seasonings.
And lots of them!
Just the way I like them.
Can you see those seasonings? Look, there on the right middle chip. Covered in seasonings.
I think the whole reason for there to be chips in this world is to hold all those seasonings.
Well, okay... they are also good for scooping some nice, fresh pico de gallo.
These seem to have a lighter crunch than a traditional corn tortilla chip. They are still crispy and crunchy. Just a little lighter of a crunch.
The overall taste is quite good. If you prefer your tortilla chips plain, these will taste a bit different from what you are used to, but not too much so. Of course, the seasonings make the world right again.
If you like seasoned tortilla chips, give these a try. They are gluten-free! See, up on the bag? Lower left corner? It's there.
When was the last time you saw a bag of regular, seasoned corn tortilla chips labeled as gluten-free? These chips will set your mind at ease.
Indulge!
