Omission Gluten-Free Beer

Gluten-Free, Barley Beer?

Is it possible to have a beer made of barley and it still be gluten-free?

And if it is possible, does it taste like real, glutenated beer?

I didn't know, but I would have to find out.

I tried another gluten-free beer months ago, but that one isn't made with barley. It is made with strawberries and you can tell. It is sweet.

If you make beer with no barley, wheat or rye, you don't have to take any gluten out of it. There won't be any in it.

But no barley means not real beer to many. That was state of things until Omission came along.

Omission Gluten-Free Beer - Lager and Pale Ale

Omission makes beer with barley and then takes the gluten out. Somehow. They use a proprietary process to take the gluten out and leave the rest of the beer.

And this takes like real beer! Because it is real beer.

I tried the lager first. I didn't like it at all, but apparently that is my taste, not the beer. I just don't like lagers apparently.

Then I tried the Omission Pale Ale. Much better. I liked it.

But I still didn't know how it compared to a glutenated pale ale.  I don't think I've ever had one, or if I have, it was so long ago, I wouldn't remember it.

A beer connoisseur friend of mine assured me that this Omission Pale Ale tasted like the real deal. A real pale ale. And this one is gluten-free. Real, honest-to-goodness, barley-but-not-glutenated beer!

Not just made of other stuff, like strawberries. Not that there is anything wrong with strawberries, but the purists will tell you that isn't real beer. Not near beer, either, but not real beer.

The Omission beers are real beers!

Now for the bad news: Omission is currently only distributing their gluten-free beers along the West Coast. And this is where I got mine. Those of us who live on the east coast will just have to wait for demand to entice them to distribute across the entire country.

In the mean time, if you want to try real beer that is gluten-free, and you are on the west coast, pick up some Omission.  You won't be sorry!

UPDATE:  It was being distributed only on the west coast. Omission is now available across the country! Find your local pub or store here.
